MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Carolyn D. Trader
Chapter President

There's  always  something  exciting  about  the  beginning  of  the  new  calendar  year  with  new  and  established  officers  and chairs.  lt's  a  time  to  reflect  on  the  previous  year  - and  to  look  ahead  at  the  opportunities  in  front  of  us,  individually  and collectively  as  we  continue  to  fulfill the  work  of NBMBAA.

Looking  Back
While  we  close  the  books  for Q4  and  FY07  overall,  I can  say  that  I am  very  proud  of what  we  have  accomplished  this  past year. We  have  made  visible  progress  on  all  dimensions  of  our  "compass"  and  perhaps  we  have  effectively  brought  these themes  to  life  in  our  work  with  our  students,  corporate  partners,  members,  and  supporters.

Customer  Centricity  -  Specialization -  Innovation  -  Teaming
In  thinking  about  customer  centricity,  I believe  our  specialized,  diversified  teams  have  become  an  integrated  part  of our  Los Angeles  Chapter  of  the  NBMBM's  success.  As  I  look  at  our  organization  and  the  dynamics  of  its  operation,  the  challenges and  changes-what  comes  to mind  is  the  three  R's:

  • Relevance  -  Keep  up with  the  times by making  the  organization  relevant  in  a globalized  marketplace.  Focus  on providing  leadership  in  the  African-American  community  as  the  business professional  voice;  educate  public  officials corporate  leaders,  opinion  leaders  and  influencers.
  • Recruitment  - Grow  the membership  ranks. Create  privileges  for membership;  affinity  marketing,  advocating business  school  outreach.
  • Response  - Respond  to the needs  and  desires  of  the membership;  expanding  opportunities,  personal/professional development  and  strategic  networking.

This  is  exemplified  by  the  renewed  and  increased  corporate  partnerships,  and  strategic  alliances  with  other  professional  and business  organizations  as  well as  more  members  and  supporters.  Our  Executive  Committee  (teams)  are  running  critical components  of  this  organization's  operations,  with  professionalism  and  innovative  solutions  that  are  making  the  difference  in our  NHQ  "5  Channels  to  Access":  Education,  Career,  Leadership,  Entrepreneurship  and  Lifestyle,  all  related  to  enhancing  ones  performance.  Only  one  year  ago  we  were  considering  making  inroads  to  diversity  campaigns  and  increasing  our economic  development  outreach,  both  accomplishments  have  yielded  positive  results  and  will be  staple  programs.

I have been impressed by many of our  committee’s  tireless work and sharing of information and resources. I have already  started  formulating  incoming  corporate  partner openers  for  our  new  chair  to  further  support  committee's  new  projects  and  opened  the  doors  to  support  corporate  partner special  projects  as  part  of  a LABMBA  teaming  approach  to  support  and  expand  business  development  for  their  projects  that have  global  impact.  The  way  such  diverse  teams  are  working  seamlessly  together  will  help  deliver  value  to  our  customers,  i.e.,  (members,  students,  supporters,  corporate  and  education  partners).

Looking  Ahead
I  am  energized  by  the  direction  our  chapter  is  taking  as  well  as  where  National  Headquarters  is  heading,  and  feel  our  strategy is  in  alignment.  As  the  year  evolves  you  will  be  hearing  more  about  our  upcoming  education  events,  programs,  corporate  an community  partnerships,  economic  development,  events  and  other  strategies,  but  here  are  the  highlights.

ln 2008  we  will:

  • lncrease  our  focus  on  customer  (members  &  sponsors)  trust-based  relationships.
  • lmprove  the  intimate  “C”-Level  relationships  with  our  corporate  partners  and  executive  members.
  • Continue  to  have  a deep,  credible  industry  insight  &  foresight  in  each  channel  of  programs  that  NBMBAA  serves.
  • Develop a global  industry  presence.
  • Enhance  our  ability  to  envision,  architect,  design  and  execute  value  creation  agenda  for  our  students,  members, corporate  partners  and  supporters,

Again,  I  thank  our  immediate  president,  board  advisors,  committee  members,  corporate  partners,  members,  NHQ  staff,  fellow NBMBAA  chapter  presidents  for  their  support,  advise  and  for  all  their  diligent  work  and  look  forward  to  increasing  value  added propositions  of  this  chapter  via  the NBMBAA  for  the  upcoming  years.

Sincerely,

Carolyn Trader
