Communications Update - June 2011

by Bessie Kaine
Communications Chairperson

The Communications Committee is continually developing and expanding as it seeks to accomodate the increased methods of communications used not just by the members of our Los Angeles Chapter but also by our National organization.

Updates:

  • We have embedded a version of the National Calendar on our website which only displays Los Angeles chapter events.  This version of the calendar contains functionality that allows you to print, download, or email the event details to yourself or a friend.
  • Our 2011 Elections are currently underway!  A system of accepting nominations has been set up on our website under "About LABMBA" > "Officer Elections."  The form will be available until June 29, 2011 at 11:59 PM.  All submissions will be date and time stamped.  The voting system will also be available online from July 16th - 25th.  For more Election-related dates and deadlines, please visit the 2011 LABMBA Elections Page.
  • Our LinkedIn group was upgraded and edited to allow anyone to join immediately (approval is no longer needed).  All group members can also post discussions or comment.  All group members can display our chapter logo on their profile page.  The group is open to members and non members.
  • A poll has been developed to get feedback from our membership on how they prefer to receive their chapter-related communications.  We presented a survey to our members in December 2010 which confirmed that our members presently receive the most chapter communications via email.  However, we'd like to know what our members preferred method of communications is.  We presently send chapter communications via email, online social networking sites, printed event flyers, and our website.  Through this poll, we would like to determine which of these is the preferred method of communications.  Which method do you prefer?  Please submit your response here

Volunteering:

The Communications Committee is run completely by volunteers!  One of our volunteers, Sandra Bailey, has a background in Accounting and has been working for the Instructional Media department at UCLA for over a decade.  We'd like to thank Sandra Bailey for her dedication to the committee as she's helped with various tasks ranging from updating our social media accounts and setting up our quarterly e-Newsletters.  We'd also like to welcome our newest volunteer, Minda Reves, to the committee.  We're looking forward to working with her more throughout the year.

Looking for experience or an opportunity to prove your skills and abilities?  If you have an interest in marketing, online social media, or communications, please send a resume and/or bio to Bessie Kaine, Communications Chairperson at communications@labmba.org with the subject line "Communications Committee Volunteer."
