2009 LA Chapter LABMBA Association Candidate Elects


Elected members will hold office from January 1st, 2010 to December 31st, 2011.


Lynn Beatty, RN, BSN, MBA
(Currently Chapter VP, Operations)


President (Elect) – Lynn Beatty

Currently, the Operations Manager for the Cedars-Sinai Health Systems Medical Group, she is responsible for the overall operations and research proceedings for several physician practices including Reconstructive Surgery. Cedars-Sinai Health Systems is a world-renowned hospital and medical center, with a Medical Group that has been rated one of California’s top performing physicians’ organizations for the past four years by the Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA). She has over 25 years of experience in nearly every healthcare setting across the continuum. Fifteen of those years have been in healthcare management. She has managed large multi-state operations as well as small work groups, and has had the privilege of managing at several well-respected, world-renowned healthcare organizations such as Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and Medco Health Systems, a biotech pharmaceuticals distributor.

She is a California State University, Long Beach alumnus, and received her MBA from Loyola Marymount University. Lynn is currently the Vice President of Operations for the Los Angeles Chapter of the National Black MBA Association. She’s also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and has two children.

Her strengths include effective communication and team building skills, achieving sales and operations targets, and executing new business strategies. With a proven track record of turning around struggling operations, she is very comfortable in leadership roles. This is reflected in the numerous leadership roles she has held over the years, dating back to her high school and Sorority years.

She has been a member of the Los Angeles Chapter of the National Black MBA Association for 12 years. During that time she progressed from volunteering at selected events each year, to serving as Membership Chairperson for four years, and now holding the position of VP of Operations for the past 1 ˝ years. Serving the Chapter has allowed her to contribute in achieving the goals of the organization, and, has offered her the wonderful opportunity to meet numerous positive, productive Black professionals in the Los Angeles area and across the country.

She is seeking the President of the Chapter position to continue LABMBA’s efforts to provide the highest value to Chapter members and Corporate Partners. The economic crisis has created a huge challenge for us to execute our plans without the necessary financial backing to perform at a high level. However, she is confident that her extensive management experience, sales success and communication skills, will “rally the troops” and effectively generate the required funding to have the very best Chapter possible. On that is capable of meeting both your professional development and networking needs.

Membership Committee shall be responsible for recruiting new members, maintaining membership records and developing programs for recruitment drives. The Membership committee will accept, review and approve all membership activities.


Brenda Gale Holden, BS, MBA
(Currently Chapter Treasurer)


Vice President, Administration (Elect) – Brenda Holden


Brenda has over 25 years experience in corporate accounting. Her background has been with Fortune 500 companies. She has held controllership roles for companies such as Hewlett Packard, Sony, Honeywell, Obagic and others.

Brenda currently holds the position of Chapter Treasurer. In that position she monitors all financial records and pays expenses approved by the President or Board of Directors. She has been a member of the Black MBA Association for over 4 years. If elected Vice Presitent of Administration, she looks forward to expanding her duties to futher solidify her commitment to LABMBA.

Brenda received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting with minors in Business Administration and Economic from Xavier University in New Orleans. She obtained her Master in Business Administration from University of Phoenix.

Debra M. Hughes , CPA, BA, MBA


Treasurer (Elect) – Debra Hughes

As a current Certified Public Accountant Consultant, Debra operates her business in Southern California. With over 20 years of audit and accounting/finance experience, she has superb communication and analytical skills. She attended the National Conventions in Orlando, FL in 2007 and the one held in our nation's capital in 2008. Furthermore, she attended the Leadership Conference last year as well.

Presently, she is seeking the position of Treasurer for the Chapter. She feels this role is the most important function on the Board. Financial accountability is of the utmost importance to non-profit associations. If funders lose faith in the association's ability to control and account for finances, they lose confidence in the whole organization.

She previously held Treasurer Positions with the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), Boston Chapter (1984-1986), Los Angeles Chapter (2000-2002), Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the Merrimack Valley Alumnae Chapter (1991-1993). Her Treasurer responsibilities included preparation of monthly/annual financial statements, work with the external auditors and preparation of 990 Tax Returns. Other positions held include serving as Audit Committee Chairperson for the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Los Angeles South Bay Alumnae Chapter in 1998 and 2007.


Janet D. Foster, BA, MBA

Secretary (Elect) – Janet Foster

Janet is currently the Director of Regulatory Affairs accountable for Commercial and Medicaid products nationally for Prescription Solutions, a UnitedHealth Group company. Janet has more than 19 years managed healthcare industry experience with past roles encompassing the consumer, health plan, hospital, and provider perspectives. Additionally, Janet has expertise in compliance education and strategic healthcare development programs for business performance improvement activities. Janet has been employed in the past with numerous management roles at the following organizations: Kaiser Permanente, Health Net, PacifiCare, and Humana Health Plans.

Currently, seeking the position of Secretary, Janet holds professional memberships in the American College of Healthcare Executives, Healthcare Executives of Southern California, Healthcare Compliance Association and National Association of Women MBAs. Prior to participating in the Los Angeles Chapter of NBMBAA, Janet also held membership in the San Francisco Chapter.

Janet has an extensive record of community service both as an individual and as a part of numerous civic organizations. Specifically, Janet has been an active member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority since her undergraduate initiation and currently serves in the Alpha Gamma Omega Chapter in Los Angeles. Janet also volunteers her time and resources to a charity called Peace4Kids, an organization dedicated to serving youth in foster care living in the South Los Angeles and Compton area neighborhoods.

A New England native growing up both in Connecticut and Florida, Janet has had many diverse educational and social experiences which reflect her personal interests. An avid sports fan, Janet enjoys watching the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Cowboys, and the New York Yankees. Janet also enjoys playing tennis, golf and swimming. Also a patron of the arts, Janet enjoys live theatre and regularly attends performances by the Los Angeles Opera, Los Angeles Ballet, and the Los Angeles Symphony.

Janet holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication from the University of South Florida and a Master of Business Administration from Saint Mary’s College of California.

Organized under the Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation Law for charitable purposes, the specific purpose of the organization is to enhance and promote business professional skills development, educational opportunities and business development within the Black community.
